Welcome to Cottbus

A bilingual metropolis Lausitz is a destination worth visiting. The historic city center with its Baroque town houses, and the State Theater built in Late Art Nouveau gives the visitor a glimpse history of the over 850-year city. High-quality cultural events and exclusive hotels and restaurants make stay in Cottbus adventurous. Cottbus is also the greenest city in Germany.

Extensive parks, avenues and promenades form a green belt along the river Spree. The beautiful park area combines Spreeauenpark, Prince Pückler Branitz park and the zoo. Hardly can a visitor oversee the fascination of Branitzer park with its unique pyramids in Europe. Cottbus has retained the charm of a small town, and radiates in glamour.

Cottbus at a glance

Cottbus, the green city on the Spree, a young academic and traditional Park City, profiled today as an attractive exhibition and conference center in Lower Lusatia. The Germans and Sorbs contributed to the history of this bilingual city. Cottbus is a destination that could be reached quickly, due to the fact that it is situated between Berlin and Dresden, on the edge of the Spree-Forest. Culture, Art and Nature invite you to adventures, sight seeing and recreation.

The Prince Pückler Park, the Branitz castle and the city theater city contribute to her reputation as a city of culture and art. The Carl-Thiem-clinic and the Sana heart centre ensure the good reputation of the city as a health center of Lower Lusatia.

The Cottbus railroad park

The Cottbus Railway crosses the beautiful park area of river Spree for the past 54 years. During this half and hour drive, the little train sidles about 3.2 kilometers through the Elias Park with its sports and play facilities and the playground, then the stadium, the trade fair of Cottbus, the Spree Park with its beautiful flowers, along the Zoo and the prince Pückler Park Branitz with its castle, the new manorial economy and the both pyramids. All the parks could be explored from the train stations by trekking. Young railwaymen of the Association for the Promotion of Cottbus's Railway park guide the passengers in the old good railroad tradition. They Proudly present themselves in their smart blue uniforms as the conductor or train personal. Get in and take a drive with the little train.
